River Rafting in Pahalgam is usually done in the Lidder River or the Indus River. Depending on the kind of difficulty level you have selected, the journey will commence on either of the rivers. There are three options to choose from when you are planning to raft on the Lidder River – the 2.5 km (Lidder joy ride), the 5 km (Lidder long ride) and the 8 km white water rafting (extra long ride). Each of the courses is filled with grade II to III and IV rapids respectively. The Lidder River is a gushing river with a difficult current and meanders that the rafters will have to tackle. The rafting trip usually starts at the Langanbal Bridge and finishes at Ganeshpura for a distance of 8 km and takes about 45 minutes to finish. Read More

Altitude: 7958 feet to 9131 feet Distance: 10 kms Time taken: 6 hours Trail type: Gently climbing long trail It is a gentle but long climb from Aru to Lidderwat covering a distance of 10 km in 6 hours. The trail to Lidderwat starts to climb straight out of the village, following the course of the Lidder River. Follow the wide trail past the agricultural department’s fence. Look back to take a commanding view of the entire region of Aru. The trail gets into a cluster of fir trees and continues to climb. Half an hour later, the trail pops out at a clearing called Dalla near Gujjar huts. Out of the pine trees, the trail gently climbs a mound, from the top of which is one of the most fascinating sceneries of the day. The Lidder River meets with the trail at the valley bottom, spreading out in springs. Next to the river are grassy glades where the trail runs. Beyond, the Lidder rushes out of a curve around more gorgeous fir forests.  Read More

Betaab valley is a gorgeous expanse by the Lidder river, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas. Its landscape looks picture-perfect with a carpet of emerald green interrupted by a river flowing through it and the snow-clad mountains in the background. It is covered by a thick forest of deodar and pine trees and is dotted with colourful flowers. The valley also serves as a base camp for trekkers and is a good place to start a further exploration of the mountains. Betaab Valley gained prominence after the Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh starrer film, Betaab, was shot here in 1983. Thus, the valley was named after the hit film. The valley falls on the way to the famed Amarnath temple yatra and is one of the three stunning valleys of Pahalgam, the other two being Chandanwadi and Aru. Read More

Sheshnag lake is one of the oligotrophic alpine lakes in Kashmir. It is a type of lake where the productivity of algae is very low. Because of this, the water is very clean and clear. Spread across 1.1 km in length and 0.7 km in width, guarded by mountains on all sides, the views it offers are spectacular. It is worth all your struggles to reach there.Kunyirhayan, a group of three mountain peaks standing tall at 16,850 ft, 16,570 ft and 16,310 ft surrounds Sheshnag lake. Glaciers of these mountains are the primary source of Sheshnag lake. Another interesting fact is, these peaks remain unclimbed till date.

Though Sheshnag lake is the main attraction of this trek, the variety in the trail makes the whole trek equally exciting. It takes you through well marked trails, man-made stairs, steep ascents and beautiful meadows.
